Platten's Team

These are continually put into practice through serving our dedicated community and enjoying team days where we take part in group activities such as wine tasting, inflatable water obstacles courses, and annual Christmas parties.

In all the work we do here at Platten’s, we always stick by our philosophy of helping our employees both inside and outside of work, so they can feel better in their everyday lives.

The Platten's Promise

01 / Sustainability

All of our fish are FAS accredited and MSC certified as being sourced from sustainable fisheries. Most of our fish are caught in the Barents Sea, but we also work with local fishermen to catch fresh fish.

02 / Living Wage

We are proud to be a Real Living Wage organisation and as part of our Platten’s team values. We proactively support each other to create a culture of positivity and healthy work – life balance.

03 / Community

Whether you’re part of our team, a customer or supplier of Platten’s, we focus on making your experience with us memorable by providing an outstanding service from start to finish.

Building a high profile between 2015-2019

Platten’s Fish and Chips was proudly shortlisted each year in Fry Magazine’s top 50 takeaways from 2015 through to 2020. The business was also named in the Top 60 for the National Fish & Chip Awards from 2017-2020.

It all started in 1966

Platten’s Fish & Chips Shop was established in the 1960’s by Luke Platten’s great-grandparents Charles and Doris Platten. The pair worked hard to build a loyal following in the community before passing on the business to Brian and Celia Platten in 1975.

The torch was passed on in 2000

Brian and Celia’s son Phil was shown the ropes on frying, serving customers and running the business before taking over the fish & chip shop in 2000. In 2003, Phil carried out a major renovation of the shop installing two eight feet aquariums.

The Platten’s business expands in 2012

Phil’s son Luke Platten joined the team in 2011 before purchasing the building next door the following year and developing it into Shop With A View. This same year, Platten’s also became a Quality Award holder and were runners up in the NFFF champion awards.

Creating a Coastal Escape in 2014

The first two luxury seaside apartments Herons Hideaway and Gooses Getaway were established by Platten’s, bringing a new offering of high standard accommodation to holidayers in Wells’.

Meet the Family

We see our team as our extended family. At Platten’s our team isn’t here for a season, it’s here for a reason. This reason may be to learn industry skills, go off to college or support a family. As part of our Platten’s team values, it’s our aim to support each team member to achieve their dreams so that we can achieve ours.
